In June 2002 while at a birthday party, four friends were discussing their children, life, and family. One of the friends mentioned she had read a great book by Terry McMillan, A Day Late and a Dollar Short. It was suggested that we would meet the next month and discuss it. This would allow us to have some girl time with each other. As suggested we met, liked it, loved it, and have been meeting every 4th Sunday each month at 4:00 p.m. at each others homes.
Our goal is to uplift GOD, build friendships with each other, and a fellowship with those we are in contact with through our literary review of African-American Authors.
Currently, there are 7 active members. The Black Diamond Book Club supports the community by sponsoring a softball/baseball team with the Southern League Sports Program, serving in the kitchen at the local The Salvation Army, and many other community service organizations. The club hosts an Annual Black & White Ball for active community leaders in the Montgomery and surrounding areas. Members are very active in their community and church.
